    Rust bluing a kimber

Need a little help with a kimber 8400.
I had a new barrel put on and wanted to rust blue the whole gun.
I have completed the bolt, trigger gaurd , and the back of the reciver.
So far every thing came out better than hopped for until I tried to do the
Bottom of the magazine floor plate. It will not take the rust. I apply my
Rusting solution and it will turn a nice frog hair of rust .
But after boiling it just wipes off and the metal is still shiny.
I'm wondering if is 303 stainless. It's magnetic.
Why the heck would they switch metal? Any help would be fantastic.
    Thanks in advace

    That does sound like stainless.
Most stainless steel are magnetic , and will rust but very slowly and not very deep

The 300-series stainless steels have varying degrees of nickel making them mostly non-magnetic. Devoid of nickel and with a grain structure similar to carbon steel, the 400-series stainless steels are slightly magnetic.

Which Types of Stainless Steel Are Magnetic?
Magnetic and non-magnetic stainless steels can typically be grouped together based on the type of stainless steel. The following types of stainless steel are typically magnetic:

Ferritic Stainless Steels such as grades 409, 430 and 439
Martensitic Stainless Steel such as grades 410, 420, 440
Duplex Stainless Steel such as grade 2205

Are their any steels that won't rust. It is very magnetic. I can't figure out why it won't rust blue.
It had the same type of coating as the rest of the parts. The gun did seem to have 2 different finishes.
Black and a slightly browner looking finish. Is their away to blue stainless with out painting?
Any ideas as too finishing on this part.
Thank you for the links. I was thinking 304 not 303 I get them mixed up
I'm not sure if it's stainless or not

I would try a quick pickle with muriatic acid the blue it. Works with hot blue may work with rust blue.

It's defiantly stainless. Why kimber went and made 1 part out of stainless is beyond me.
I heated it up and darkened it using motor oil. That's as good as I'm going to get unless I do a hot blue.
