I came into a 1# can of 800X and can not remember where it falls in the burning rate. As i remember it was a shotgun powder.
I cannot find loading data for it. Most shot gun powders also work well for cast rifle loads.
What say you?

Reliable old shotgun powder for heavy loads. Doesn’t meter particularly well though. Tons of shotgun data available. Good for 44 mag loads I believe.

Perhaps this will give you the answers you need.
Last edited by Joe K; 01-18-2022 at 06:16 PM. Reason: Different chart showing 800x
357, 40s&w, 10mm, and I use it in the 38-55
32 H&R too.
I started out using it in 12 gauge shotgun loads but soon switched to 700X. The 800 burned dirty(filthy really) but did give very good load results. I really believe the reason 800 was so dirty for me was that I was using it for lighter trap and skeet loads and I don't think it was developed for lower pressure loads. I got slightly better results using the 700 so I stayed with it. If someone has one of the older Dupont load manuals it will have the loads for 800X. just my experience anyway. james
Actually 800x is probably the best low pressure smokeless powder of all time. The fact you had decent results with a light trap load with it, when it has a burn rate closer to Bluedot than Unique should say something. A quick check of load data shows that most 1 1/8 oz loads of 800x in a 12 gauge are in the 5,000 psi range. That's blooper territory for most other powders, but 800x only gets a little dirtier.
Thanks for the input guys
