I kinda wondered where he got the 11 shot Model 70 myself . Anything is possible , some are just not likely . I'd guess the log had the bear stuck and the snapping and bounding was embellishment . Makes a good story though .

A toggle or drag is just that, something attached to the trap to inhibit easy travel. If the drag is too heavy the critter can pull out if the trap, thus the reason the trap is not tied to a tree. Drags are selected to catch on everything, slowing the critter. Large metal double hooks are common in my part of Texas.
As for the Swift.......it was hyped up as a lightning strike killer.

I wasn’t there so can’t say much about his story but I have been bluff charged by a big male grizzly and can say that it was one of the most terrifying events I’ve had. Wife and I also got bluff charged by a sow with cubs but she stopped much further away that that male did.
