lyman #452651 mould

Hello to all! Im new to the site and all I can say "where have You been all my adult life"? Great site!! I do have a question, has anyone used this mould for +p loads in a ruger? Ive never cast for this gun,its been fed CPB lfn 300grn. bullets. I cast for alot of calibers but never my 45 colt. Id like to use wheel weights and water quench them out of the mould. Whats the thaughts out ther? thanks alot.

i use a different nose shape then yours in a lyman.
but you don't need to water quench them i have pushed mine in a case similar to the 454 casull and in a 24" lever action up to 1600 fps just fine with plain air cooled ww's with a bit of tin.
use a good lube.

You do not need a gas check in the .45 Colt. I have the Lee C452-300 RF mould (which IS a gas check) but prefer the Lyman 452664 for general use in my Ruger Bisley Vaquero.

You also can use air cooled Wheel Weights (I add 2% tin for easier/better fill out) and drive them as fast as you safely can out of the Ruger without problems.

Dale, how do you like the lee mould? i just orderd one yesterday.

The Lee mould, particularly in the six cavity version, is a very good product. I have several Lee moulds, both two and six cavity. I can do excellent work with either but the six cavity moulds are considerably higher quality in general.

One thing that I have found near indispensable with ALL of my moulds (but particularly the aluminum versions) is Bullshop Sprue Plate lube.
