Here is another recipe with some good tips on mixing and how to "bake" them on top the stove .
You can use butter or ... my favorite ... bacon drippings !
I mean if you are making biscuits ... a bacon-biscuit is just outta sight !

Go to the site and enter the recipe name in the search line and it pops right up ...read the mixing and cooking details / tips .

I was contemplating this just a few days ago while planning a camping trip. Thanks for the links.
I have no idea for exactly what you have in mind, but you might do a search for "bannock" or camp bread.
The recipe is 1 cup flour, 1 tsp baking powder, and 1/4 tsp salt. But that's just the basics. It's just as comfortable at home as at camp. Yes, fry it it animal fat drippings.
Thanks, Guys
Getting to the store for Buttermilk tomorrow and try a couple recipes out.

An air fryer works very well for biscuits once you get temp figured out. I've always had some kind of oven available even if it was just a Dutch oven. So I've never tried on the stovetop.
A Tip : Don't over work the dough , handle it as least you can ... read the mixing tips in the recipe link I posted ... great advice .
My hat is off to all who can make a light fluffy biscuit ... all though I've tried my best ... mine come out with the texture of a Hockey Puck .
My grandmother could make wonderful biscuits but passed before I was old enough to learn from her . My dad sampled one of my attempted "biscuits" ...tapped it on the table and proclaimed " I could throw this and knock you out with it at 50 paces ... it's hard as a rock !"
My best biscuits come from a bag in the freezer ... I just don't have the knack !

gw, bake the biscuits with them touching, they will rise better, be lighter, and softer.
Grandad said his MIL's biscuits were so light they would float away, but his Moms were deadly if you threw one at somebody

As good as you can ask for. Grease skillet, cook til brown on one side, flip, cook til lightly browned on the other. Start with the dough about a half inch thick.
When guns are outlawed only criminals and the government will have them and at that time I will see very little difference in either!

that's my recipe too- exactly, folding method and number of times included. I've never made them stovetop. May try (if my wife will let me)! The recipe is very good tho.
I'm going to have to try it again and see if I can resist the urge to knead the dough like bread ...
I can't help it ... I feel like kneading will make them better but unlike bread biscuits get dense when kneaded ... maybe I'll get the wife to mix them ...she's good at that sort of stuff .

fold them like that lady does in that recipe. All you want to do is combine everything well and get the flour evenly hydrated. Some people don't even fold I've seen in videos, but I do.
