I'd be surprised if the .22 was louder than the .177. Having said that.... if it's an issue, then scale down the power level
I agree with chutes. Also, Donny FL could definitely solve any loudness problem.
You really should look at a "shroud" of some sort. Even powerful 25 PCP guns can be very quiet.

These things determine noise level (assuming no noise mitigating device in place):
1. the power, as in foot-pounds of energy being produced by the airgun
2. The velocity of the projectile, to the degree that it passes speed of sound and produces a "crack". Diabolo pellets typically perform the best under about 920fps.
3. The efficiency of the airgun. Inefficient PCPs will have more of a bark to their shots.
These three things are more pertinent to the discussion of noise level than the caliber.
IMHO the .177 is more likely to break the sound barrier than the .22. In addition, the heavier pellet might have advantages depending on what you are doing.
