I like to add different foods and world regions to my menu
So I have been making refried beans
I am looking for some different things to add to the refried beans
Thanks

Fry some chorizo and put in the refried beans.
Pro tip: Don't read the ingredients on the chorizo package.
Refried beans, cooked ground beef, sour cream, yellow mustard mozzarella cheese.
I don't measure, but to a large (2 regular) about a pound of ground Beef/ venison, 1/2 to 3/4 cup sour cream , 2-3 tablespoons yellow mustard, 1 cup shredded mozzarella. oh and a few (to your taste) finely chopped Jalapenos .
There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end: communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism—by vote. It is merely the difference between murder and suicide. Ayn Rand
Not me, I'll put the extra stuff in a taco or burrito. But I like my refrieds pure. I do from time to time add some chili powder.
And a little shredded Mild Cheddar cheese on top melted in tastes well.
I like to fry mine till they are slightly dry and crumbly on the outside, still a bit soft and moist inside.
Mom was raised in El Paso Del Norte and that was the way she did hers.

Refritos are a common meal in my house.
One can of refrieds.
One can of black beans, drained and rinsed.
Salsa of your choice.
Shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
Combine first three ingredients along with about a third of the cheese. Mix well, spread in a pie plate. Smooth the top.
Spread the remaining cheese on top evenly.
Bake in oven at 350 until cheese is bubbly and beginning to brown.
Eat directly from pie plate using tortilla chips or spoon into soft tortillas.
Sometimes I add a can of chopped green chiles or some powdered chipotles.
Chance favors the prepared mind.
A little bacon grease and garlic powder are my favorites
Refried beans are a staple down here in Deep South Texas. There are several brands of canned refried beans that are as good as can be made. We don't put stuff IN refried beans, but we do put stuff ON them. I am talking cheese and about anything else that comes to your mind.
Back in 1994, I got deathly ill on some store made chorizo. I loved it, up until it turned me wrong side out. I can't even stand to be anywhere near the nasty stuff anymore.

bacon fat, onion, cheddar
Heat, spread on a plate, top with salsa, lettuce, sour cream, eat with chips
Heat with taco seasoning for any use
I have added garlic to my basic refried beans for years
Jalapenos and onions are also added to the top much of the time
But the rest sound like good ideas to try also
Any other good ideas ?
I got to thinking tonight of adding some of the spicy smoked fish I did the other day
Flaking it over the refried beans

Chorizo on refried beans - get a rope.
I like them alone, but occasionally I will add some rice. Either way, add a light drizzle of fresco cheese and some diced onions with sliced jalapenos, then wrap it in a flour tortilla. Found a new source, they're dried in a bag, just add water and heat in a pan.
A long time ago I was told if you can not fry them correctly then why would you want to fry them again!
If’n they don’t have bacon grease in ‘em, they ain’t refried! Gotta have garlic and onions as well.

Old Elpaso is good, its my "Gold standard".
Shopping at Aldi's Mamacita's refrieds are pushing the old el paso's hard, and half the price.
I can see where bacon grease would be good. But mostly I just throw a splash of Canola oil then the beans.
Personally I like a dash of Tony's Cajun spice on mine. But the wife can't take the heat so it only goes on my plate not the pan.

More often than not I buy Rosarita brand, non-fat which is vegetable oil instead of lard. Put the contents of the can into a pot and add a little water. Mix in some finely chopped onion and finely chopped jalapeno. Heat over low medium stirring occasionally. Spoon onto plate and put a big spoonful of Hot Pace Picante sauce in a puddle in the middle of the portion. Good with lots of stuff, but especially with eggs and tortillas.

You soak dry beans (check em for stones 1st) in water overnight with a tablespoon of baking soda . Drain and rinse. Either boil on slow boil till tender , adding water as needed or pressure cook half hour. Cool and refrigerate. To refry grab your cast iron skillet, heat up, add dollop of bacon grease, garlic and onions, cooked beans and salt and attack with potato masher.
Wala! Refried beans! Forget the canned crap !
