Tell me how you use Alliant 2400

2400 is a very versatile powder. both the RCBS and Lyman cast bullet manuals are peppered with tested loads using 2400 in many many different pistol and rifle calibers.
its got to be right up there with unique as one of the most popular powders for cast boo lit loads

Around 13 grains under a 162-ish .357 bullet produces superb accuracy in my 6.5" Blackhawk.

I love it for subsonic loads in the 300 blackout, 338BR and the 510Whisper. I'm running jacketed bullets in all. 220grSMK in the blackout, 300gr SMK in the 338BR and 650-700gr military or AMAX in the 510. It works really well and is quieter than a lot of the other powders used for subsonic suppressed loads.

I have a fun, accurate load in 450 Marlin: 20.0gr of 2400, a CCI 200 and a Lee 405 RNPB. Very soft shooting. I need to chronograph it.

I also use 18.0gr with an S&B LP and a Lee 400gr RFN in .480 Ruger. 1080fps out of a 7 1/2" SRH.

Lastly, in 357 Mag. I use 12.5gr with a Lee 158gr RFNBB and a CCI-500. IIRC 1100fps out of a S&W 586 6".

I just got an order through for an 8 pounder from Brownells on Friday. Still "processing" so we'll see. Brownells has always been good so I'm relatively confident. Hopefully I'll be burning a lot of 2400 in the near future. Thanks for starting this thread, Craig! And thanks to those that shared info- I'm planning to try work-ups to some of the loads in here.

I was trying to talk myself out of buying one of those 8 lb jugs that you snagged since I've never used 2400 before, or justify buying it. In the end they were gone before I purchased one and I'll likely look back on it as a mistake. Hoping to find a lb locally to play with. Thanks to everyone for contributing!

I use it in .357 Magnum. Almost the velocity of H110, lower charge weight, and just as consistent. Best of all--no magnum primer needed so I can save those for my real full house loads.

It is my go to for 410 and alot of that is stated already .

I can vouch for two loads already mentioned...12.5gr under Hornady 158gr XTP groups well and to point of aim for my Ruger 357 LCR at fighting distance as does 10.5 gr with the Lee 358-158-RNFP cast of 50/50.

22.0gr and .75gr dacron with Lee 459-405-HB works well in my Trapdoor 45-70 "sporter" with 20" barrel. It hits at same POA as 24.0gr 4227 which chronographed at 1120fps.

Picked up an extra pound of 2400 (and Bullseye) just before the fan got hit.

For me it's a lot like Unique, in that it doesn't give top accuracy or velocity in any of my revolver cartridges, but it does work reasonably well in all of them, so I have some on hand for "just in case."

I have used 9.0 in .32-20 Marlin and 13 to 16 gr experiments in 30-30 winchester. I am getting vertical spread with the latter...I think it may be powder position and/or gun handling somehow. Limited time and primers, so ended the research for now.
