    Wap 289 powder

I have a good supply of Winchester Action Powder 289 at a good price (in New Zealand) but can find no loading data . In particular I want to use it in 38 special and 44 Magnum pistols. The 38 will be with 148grain wadcutters and 158 grain swc. The 44magnum with 180grain wadcutters and 240 grain swc. All boolits blended lead alloys. I would well pleased if any knowledgeable and helpful person would share whatever information they can with me.

Belmont are the NZ suppliers. On their website they have a Load Data Sheet https://belmontammo.co.nz/wp-content...ading-data.pdf

    Data is for 9mm, 38 Super 40 S&W, 45 Auto, 10mm

44 Magnum is not included so maybe not so appropriate for that.

I have found that 7.5 grains with a dacron filler pushing a 160 grain semi wad cutter powder coated in a 357 case will do 1275fps from my Rossi leveraction and group about 3 inches at 50 yards . wasnt trying for a group but to see how the powder performed.
130 grain conical 9mm powder coated from my G34 pushed by 5.4 grains WAP will do 1130 fps with very good grouping at 25 yards.

In my research, WAP that we had here in the US in the 1990s was Saint Mark's SMP248. Ramshot Silhouette is also supposed to be SMP248. No idea if the NZ powder is the same stuff. I have a fair amount of it, seems like a really good powder in all respects.

Interesting . I find that 5.4 g WAP in my G34 opens right up but in my CZ75 tightens up. Love the CZ
