    lyman --no 35 Whelen??

I'm guessing there is no 35 Whelen data in my Lyman cast boolit 3rd edition handbook because its a fourth printing 1987. the Whelen was legitimized in '88, is it listed in the 4th edition? I recently acquired a 700 classic after looking for one for years. I don't have any .35 cal molds but I figured this would be one I would shoot cast out of.

There is only one page dedicated to the .35Whelen in the 4th edition of the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook. It contains the exact same data on two cast bullets that are also listed in the Lyman Reloading Handbook 49th edition. The bullets listed are 358430@195g and 358315@204g. Perhaps this is because the test rifle used a 1:16 inch twist, and many of us that have had .35 Whelens with a 1:16 twist, have found that heavy bullet do not stabilize in such a twist. A bullet that did well in my Remington Classic 700 in .35 Whelen was the RCBS 35-200 or the Lee equivalent. My load was 24g of the now discontinued 4759,CCI 200 primer, bullet sized to .358 with a hardness of Bhn 22 and an OAL of 3.17". That load gave 1744 fps with an SD of 22. Accuracy was 1.28"@100 yards for 5 shots. Good luck with your .35 Whelen

one of my favorites, about 35 grains 4198 under 200 grains of boo lit cast out of clip on wheel weights, you just cannot go wrong with the RCBS 35-200
I have plans on trying two new ones, the mp 359-220 and RCBS 35-250 with 8208 and aa2520, but have not gotten too them yet I've been busy with other stuff

thanks guys, I'll have to check my twist for sure before buying a mold, I also snagged up a 35 rem in a 760 this fall also, so I guess im officially a 35 cal guy! I think they are cool, both of 'em.

Wc870 --If your. 35 Whelen is a Remington Classic 700 mfd in the 80's when the Classic had a new chambering each year, your twist rate is 1:16. At least the 3/ea I have played around with were.
