Supposedly by Dewey (of Dewey cleaning rods)

Rear site moved to toggle, barrel by Dewey, taller front sight due to higher rear sight, some jeweling and ported

Very fun to shoot and preserves my other 2 artillery models (one safe Queen and one semi-queen)

Was this modification made by a retail gunsmith back in the day?
Like you had said, I suppose this already sporterized Luger keeps your original ones original. Talk about that fella taking one for the team!

Either way, it's definitely one of the more practical sporterizations that I've seen.

I was told it was done by Dewey but I don’t know for sure. Also not sure on timing.
Rear sight would likely give me a hint. It is a blast to shoot and frankly easier than my originals

Top is all original and matched, bottom is matched minus 1 small part and leather etc. I shoot the bottom one


Broomhandle equally looks fun but is a safe Queen as I don’t have ammo that I would trust with a it.

Could do without the magna-porting (like every other gun in existence that's ever been magna-ported)

I have Only 2 ported.

This and a one of my 454’s (FA)

Not a hater one way or the other.

Definitely not needed on this one in respect to muzzle flip but the combo of the toggle in recoil and maybe some of the porting really makes for fun rapid shooting. The gun hardly moves. (I think the grip angle also helps and how it catches your hand at the webspace)

Optical sight would really be trick (if it could be done tastefully) but I don’t want to D+T anything on it.

Mauser ammo is still made. It is good for even the old pistols. I have hand loaded for the Wife's C96. Takes some care since almost max load is needed to cycle the action.

Nice Luger. John Dewey made up those custom Lugers in the 60's. He used Micro brand rear sights generally on those conversions.
The polish was rather soft wheel rounded on most as compared to the sharp factory style polishing.
A shop I did work for in the early to late 70's had a J.Dewey Luger on display. Same configuration as this but it had been engraved quite heavily and gold inlayed by Bill Mains when he had been working for G&R Tackle in Buffalo NY.
Bill likely did the gun in the late 60's.
