I bought some Conibear 110 Body Traps to trap for Ground Squirrels.
This is my first time doing this. I am not a trapper per se, just mice and Ground Squirrels.
After reading some articles on the 110, I decided to mod them with a pan type trigger.
I also made some boxes to house them.
After doing all of that, I baited and set my trap next to a hole and anxiously waited for the next day to check it.
Next day when I went and checked.......ugh-h, oh no, there was a dead racoon that got into my trap.
The racoon was able to get it's head in the box and the trap got it across the top of it's head.
I felt bad about that. Such an unnecessary kill. (frown)
I thought about this for a bit and came up with a "door" idea with a smaller opening that should prevent that from happening again.
Here are some pictures of what I did.
I used some cloth strapping for the handle and hinges and used a piece of wire on the side to keep the "door" held closed. The back of the trap has 1/2" metal screen stapled to the box.
I put the modded trap out today.
Hopefully I will have success.
