Looking at auction sites, "vintage" dies are selling for the same or more (sometimes MUCH more) than currently available Magna dies. Why would anyone want an older die when for the same or less buckazoids get new? I am not getting it.

There is no reason that I know of, except that is just the nature of an auction.

Some people aren't aware that new dies can be obtained, as they're under the impression that the die making stopped when the machines were discontinued. Not everyone joins a forum like this, where there are vendors who make items no longer manufactured by the original companies. When they believe the original die is their only choice, they'll pay the going price.
Hope this helps.
