    H&R model 1900 16 gauge

I have the opportunity to buy an H&R model 1900 16 gauge and plan to shoot some light target ammo through it. It appears to be in decent condition (for its age), but is it safe to shoot? Thanks to any and all for your help. Gunauthor

There are a lot of things to take into consideration. Is the gun tight , is it on face , do the barrels ring true , are the bores pitted and if so how deep are the pits . I’ve got several guns with pitted bores I shoot but they’re all on face and tight .

Incidentally I was at a public auction three or four years ago . They were selling the gun collection of a friends father . One of the items was an H&R SxS hammer gun 28 gauge . Gun had been reblued and wasn’t what I would call super tight but tight enough to shoot some . I figured the gun was worth a few hundred . So when it came up I was prepared however the price shot past my pre determined limit almost three times over . What I failed to mention the fellow that owned the gun was a retired Harley dealer that had a huge following , a good many of the guns sold for well over value because of who owned them .

Make sure the chamber length is 2 3/4" as old 16's were 2 9/16 or 2 1/2. 2 1/2 are available on line.
