Painting miscellany
The industrial green color so many things get painted with has been shown to be the easiest color on your eyes when exposed to it for long periods of time such as in a factory.
The wrinkle finish is similar to the use of textured or splatter coat paint. The rough finish hides the rough casting surfaces. The manufacturer can get away with spending less time and hand labor touching up the bare castings before painting.
RCBS's use of the green color was to use a green that is associated with their brand. The wrinkle finish is both durable and hides wear as well as hiding casting texture variations and lack of hand finishing of casting texture variations.
Rough paint is also used to hide other surface imperfections in castings, weldments, spot welded assemblies, riveted assys, etc.
Textured molds in the plastics industry are used to hide mold marks, gates, material flow lines, parting lines, mold joints and hide air bubbles.
For example many molded parts trap air that is easily seen with transparent or uncolored resins. The molder can hide cosmetic air bubbles by using a black or other non transparent resin. If possible to use a rough textured surface the mold may also be textured to hide molding defects and air bubbles.
