Have a short 1842 musket bbl. for a fun project. The tang is snapped off so I drilled a somewhat off center hole and tried an easy out with all the heat I dared. Presoak in Kroil. No avail. How far can I go? Get it red? Thanks for looking, Jaeger.

I don't think I would go red. Blue is as hot as I have ever taken one. Soak it longer. Or cut off the plug, and re-breech it.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!
Thank you Waksupi.
