Needa good load with a non checked 170 grain flatpoint using 5744 and H4895 Can use 4064 but prefer the other 2 powders especially since I have a great deal of it.Looking for velocities in the 1600 to 1800 areas Thanks.

    1. experiment. 2. prolly not gonna get there adequately/consistently without a gc, not in that cartridge at that speed. 3. 5744 might be you be your best starting place at about 1200.

May want to try 12.5 grains of Unique.
Here a group shoot with an old Mauser 98 that has a Singer barrel (Singer Sewing Machine company) 180gr Lee mold GC.

Here's another group shot with an Encore 30-06 15" barrel.

As sundog suggests those are not good powders for your 170 gr PB bullet. All will have to drive it too fast before the powders give consistant ignition. As mentioned by Tpper, Unique would be a good choice for velocities up through 1400-1500 fps. I use Bullseye with such a bullet for very good loads at 1150-1200 fps.

It is really tough to get good, consistant accuracy with PB bullets much over 1500 fps.

    Good morning and WELCOME Mauser98US.
+1 on all the above... about all I can see that might help a tad would be water dropping your very HOT boolits. That is simple and would help with FAST rifle powders like 2400.
    Mike God Bless you.
