I'm a late bloomer and although I've been on the forum for a long time, got sidetracked and just now getting around to starting to cast some boolits. I love to shoot my SKS and wondered what the best boolit would be to cast for 7.62x39?

Lee 312-160-2R. Checked and PC. Its what i used before someone wanted my sks way, way, $WAY$ more than I did.
The regular lube groove offering did function well, I just prefer tumble lube versions for PC. Both of these are available in 6 cavity.
Thanks! So, I figure checked is gas check and PC means powder coated. I acquired a Lyman 450 some time ago and will actually use lube. Appreciate your response and I'll check out the Lee mould.
i used both of the Lee boolits, and they just didn't do it for me. I lucked into an NOE 129gr .314 mold here, and that boolit is the bees knees, powder coated.
The Lee 155 shot ok but the 185 rn shot better for me in the yugo sks I had
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!
My brother designed that bullet and the 130 plain base, which is what I use in my Ruger 7.62X39. Mine are NEI (NOE took over most of the NEI designs when NEI went under for good). My bolt action prefers the plain base and with powder coating I am getting right at 1900 FPS and 1 to 1.5 inch groups at 100 meters. I have the gas check version if anyone wants to trade for it.

Jake, I use a C.E. Harris designed, NOE produced ~160gr. GC CB, which I size to .316" for my SKS: Very accurate and easy to cast from my 6 cavity mould.
Any input on the RCBS 130 grain mold? I got a good deal on one and had Magma concert it for master caster. Was planning to give it a spin soon.
IF you're going to use the Lyman 450 to lube them I would go with the C312-155-2R or C312-185-1R that have lube grooves the 160 has tumble lube grooves meant for alox.
What powder are you guys who are getting good accuracy using?
Jakemo,
My SKS arms like the Lyman #311410, a 130 grain plain base boolit ahead of IMR4198. It is my "Ball Substitute" projectile that also shoots well in my M1 Carbines.
I hope this helps.

My favorite for the 7.62X39 would be the NOE 314-129-SP Great in the Blackout to the same level also.
LEE CTL312-160-2R works well for me, I PC them and get excellent accuracy. H335 is my go-to powder for them.Shooting a BCA upper.

My Yugo SKS with the grenade launcher and ladder sights likes them big and long. So I mostly feed her the Lee 185 gr gas checked lubed with BLL, over light loads of IMR 4895. She was hitting quarter sized pieces of clay pigeon at 50 which is all I can expect from old eyes and iron sights.
For my SKS, it preferred my Lee 155gr C.E. Harris designed bullet. For my 7.62x39 AR15 upper (both in 1-10" twist) I found I had better accuracy with my old Lyman 311359 (120gr) because that barrel had much shorter throat than my Chinese SKS
I Cast my Boolits, Therefore I am Happy.
