Hey fellas

I put my homemade felt wads in a sealable plastic bag and squirt in some liquid Ox-Yoke Wonder Lube. They soak it right up, and I just leave them right in the bag until time to load up.
Same as hawkenhunter50.Thicker lubes throw the bag in the micro-wave.
I have lubed patches and wads in the past with heavy lubes by this method.
I cut into strips and doll loosely. Melt lube in a double boiler and soak rolls for 15-20 mins then remove place on wax paper let cool. FOr wads stamp from roll as needed. You need t give it enough hot soak time to permeate the roll completely
I punch wads first (less messy), place them in small plastic container then pour Gato Feo #1 over wads while stirring, until saturated. After cooling, wads are ready for use.
I have lubed some felt wads by melting some lube in a catfood can, then add a small handfull of wads. Let them come up to temperature, then use tweezers to pull them out one at a time and place on wax paper to cool.
I have used this with BPCR Supreme and BP-01. Both of these lubes can be melted directly on a hot plate. Just make sure to not let them get over 200F so you don't scorch the Lanolin. You can use a double boiler to melt it if you want, but I just use a hot plate and a small can. If the lube changes consistency and or color, then you've gotten it way too hot. Use it for flux and start a new can and watch it as it heats up. Shouldn't take too long.
I think the hot liquid lube would cause pre cut wool felt wads to shrink.
Measure your wad diameter before and after the hot lube dipping, check for shrinkage.
If they shrink, then up size the wads diameter to compensate for the shrinkage.
I lube the whole sheet first in the oven so that the lube penetrates the felt. After cooling off I punch out the wads.
If you are going to make a hole in something. MAKE IT A BIG ONE!
