I've been using fins from these copper and aluminum CPU heatsinks for shims and workholding, but it suddenly struck me that they could be used for gas checks as well.
What does everyone think? Are they too thick?

Measurement of thickness? Take the width of the base of the Boolit, then twice the thickness of the material you want to use; then a slight amount larger (.001 or ...?) Thise results in a gas check that is Swaged during sizing onto the Base of the boolit.

Aluminum: 0.02" 0.5mm - this is how thick the 30cal checks that I have are.
Copper: 0.01" 0.3mm
I just did same thing recently was looking a material that's thick enough for 44 mag and tried a CPU heatsink and it was measuring .0156, it worked! I still would prefer .016 if I could find it. The aluminum was soft as butter, it punched and formed perfectly. For my testing purposes it's fine but for mass production there is hardly material.

Thanks for the info!
I am going to the nearest scrap yard to try and buy more of them at the scrap metal prices, like 50 cents each!
