As far as I know Lee never made hollow point molds. There is a guy who offered the service to modify molds into hollow point molds.

Eric at http://www.hollowpointmold.com is the one who does it.

I always liked them. Not as much for the hp mold as they were guaranteed to get bid up high on any auction site. I would not be surprised if the captive pin had some troubles getting centered in manufacturing so it had a lot of rejects.

Lee made several different calibers and weights of HP molds. These are base pour designs with a sliding HP pin at the nose section that is secured to the halves of the blocks. The pin is captive and cannot be separated and lost like so many of the Lyman pins can vanish. You can see the HP pin system they use when viewing their current hollow base muzzle-loader boolit molds. I have the following examples of these molds:
#90484 38 caliber, 150 grain plain base
#90486 44 caliber, 215 grain plain base
#90487 44 caliber, 240 grain gas check base
If there was a mold #90485 (perhaps a 41 caliber?) I have no vintage records of that design. There may have been other calibers and weights but that escapes my memory. While Lee still offers the hollow base patterns I cannot speak to their decision about dropping the HP molds from production. Wish they still offered them.

The only stupid question...is the unasked one.

I believe I have a 45 cal Lee single cavity hp design mold. There are old threads here about these being dropped from Lee production, back in 2006. I thought I had seen them much more recently, but time flies!
Take a kid to the range, you'll both be glad you did.
