    Unertyl/ Lyman scopes

Anyone point me in a direction where I could learn more about theses style scopes. I received 5 of these target style scopes when I bought a large collection of stuff a few years ago and now would like to sell them and some of the mounting bases that came with them. I've looked at ebay and know that they have some value, I just want to learn a bit about them before posting them for sale. I'd prefer not to do business on ebay. I definitely appreciate the collective knowledge of this site - Thanks Bill

There was a guy specializing in these a few years back. I want to say his name was Duane Grenier or something like that. I had him bookmarked but can't find it.

Basically, you're sitting on a gold mine.

Gold mine is right. If you have 4 position, small bore league matches in your area, try showing up with your scopes some night. You'll start a feeding frenzy. They're scarce as hens teeth. I'm glad I bought mine when I did.

    Thanks

I appreciate the contact info - not trying to keep anyone in the dark, just trying to figure a fair market value before posting them. I'll list what I have in this post later today, when I get home from work. Thanks again Bill.

    What I have....

    1. Lyman 5A long thin tube scope in the cardboard box with adjustable rings/ mounts (blued), I can't find the power on this one unless there were all the same.
    2. Unertyl long thin tube, unknown power, does have a 4 on a flat of an adjustment ring near the rear of the scope, with silver colored (aluminum?) adjustable mounts.
    3. Lyman Junior Targetspots long thin style with adjustable mounts (blued) marked 8 power (have 2 of these)
    4. Lyman Expert 422 scope in original box, appears new
    5. Redfield 2 3/4 power 3/4 inch tube scope
    6. Leupold Pioneer 2.5 power scope with external adjustment mount
........also received a few other more modern Bushnell and Redfield scopes, nothing fancy.

Have to figure out what they're worth and then I can put them up for sale.

Google parsons scope repair, he buys scopes of these kind. All depends on what ya want for them. Real limited market not like it was in the sixties on these things. Homer at champion shooter or shooters supply collects then. Google those and call the one in TN not ohio. -chris

Talk to Dewey or hit Auction Arms, Ebay, etc for value. Those long scopes all go better than $300.00 now, and that's for a worn example.

The one Unertyl scope has (J Unertyl) adjustable rings on it, no spare rings. Thanks for the info gents - Still trying to figure out what I have and am going to do with them. I need to free up some big money soon, just bought a Shelby Cobra reproduction hot rod. Need to start selling off a bunch of unused/ unneeded accessories and a few firearms as well. Thanks for the info - Bill

The Lyman 5A is 5x. It was originally the Winchester A5.

You might float this info on the ASSRA site. There are lots of external adjustm4ent scopes in use on single shot rifles in ASSRA shooting. I use a 20x Super Targetspot.

I have a lyman super targetspot 20x scope. I was trying to figure out where to go to get it appraised. It is still in the wooden box my father or grand father bought it in. Has not been used for over 20+years. Anyone know where I could go to get something like that appraised ?

Unertyl used to offer hunter scopes with a shorter length tube. The 4 is probably the scope power, which would fit in the power range of this model. How long is the scope?

    Hello
One item of major importance, is any have a USMC marking, they are worth LOTS more.
I have a number of 2" Unertls and really like them

Oh, yes, a picture of them would be neat.

They certainly seem to have a cult following. A buddy of mine sold one a few months ago. I think that he got around $1200 for it. It was in fairly good condition but looked far from new. I don't know much about them aside from thinking that the external mounting rings look rather unique.
