I didn't run a multimeter over it. I removed the thermostat and had it connected live and neutral only. Let it get to about 200C then switched off and let it cool down. Connected groynd wired and switched it back on, didn't trip the breaker this time. Yahoo
Glad you got it running.
If it happens again, have a look around for an isolation transformer to use to get it hot then you can disconnect it.

Mate had a MC. He used to warm it up on a genny, then plug it into the mains.

I’ve been running a Master Caster on 240 VAC for a few years now and I am in Canada. Pretty much the same electrical as US. It is well grounded and I have had no problems. It runs off a home-made PID. You may perhaps have a leaky element? Make sure everything is grounded!
Excellent machine! I have automated mine with help from Hatch and many posts on this forum.
