    $ General Find

    Stopped by Dollar General Store today to pick up some stuff and found the real copper scrubbers. Just what we need to remove stubborn lead fouling. They passed the magnet test and were only $1.50. I dont know if all $ General stores have them but at least we now know that the Dawn Scrubbers are real copper. Attachment 247471

    The Dollar Tree near me has started carrying them as well. A nice change from having to buy Chore Boy online in bulk just to get my hands on copper.

    Lot better than "copper-coated" steel wool...

    A milder alternative is bronze wool, usually in the paint department of a hardware store (second in my affections only to a good gun shop).

    Thanks for sharing. They look fairly fine. I picked up some cedar brand from the local grocery store that are pretty coarse looks like chainmail. Works good, but I'd like a finer alternative sometimes.

    I like a finer alternative also, Bazoo, that's why I use a Montana Extreme brush first. I have been fortunate to not have much leading, thanks to the knowledge so generously shared by members here.

    If you want some of the cedar brand and can't find them, message me and I'm glad to send you some.

    I'll second this. I've used this product for years and never had a complaint. It's the easiest thing to delead a barrel that I've ever used.

    IF you slug your barrels first (or pound cast) and size your boolits properly not pushing them faster than the alloy hardness allows you shouldn't get leading

    Amen to that. This has been my experience also. I can honestly say I have never had to scrub a badly leaded bore thanks to the wealth of knowledge shared on this site.... Now I'm off to get some Dawn scrubbers just to have on hand...Kuz I'm just lucky like that.

    Guess I got skipped over with leading of Bbl. Cause I’ve never had that happen. When I started casting, went straight to pc. And sizing boolits with lee push thru sizing kits. An older reloader fellow, my mentor gave me an old Lyman 450 but haven’t had time to do anything with it but look at how it’s made and how it works. Love old tools with or with out rust, just interesting.

    I have a couple revolvers that lead. Until they are repaired, copper scrubbers are a miracle worker.

    They were $1.75 down here on the coast. Got me 4 packs. Thanks for the tip murf.

    I have an old stevens crackshot that is so leaded up, the rifling is almost non-existent. I will be looking at our Dallas General in the morning.

    Taylor, it's used as follows to strip leading from a bore. Pull a strand or two from the pad and wrap it around a bronze bore brush. Then apply some bore cleaner, or even oil, and scrub the bore. The copper strands have fairly sharp edges which do a good job of cutting soft lead and cruddy fouling. You'll see the bright freshly cut lead on the brush afterward.
