I just started casting for .45 ACP. How many coats of hitek do I need for indoor practice rounds at 800 fps?
Will one suffice or is two necessary? I definately go three coats for rifle bullets between 1500-2000 fps.
thanks

There are commercial companies that put coating on in one coat but I have found the coating does not stick well, two coats will do the job very well. I coat 230gr .452 for mates and brother who has a 45 acp and two coats even works on cast fired in the 460 SW round my brother has. Do it right and go for two coats and you will have no regrets. For 9mm at 900 fps I use two coats and never have had leading. But I distinctly remember somewhere in that monster HiTek thread a comment from old Joe the manufacturer and inventor of HiTek himself noting that one layer properly applied does the job, but two or more look a lot better.
That said, I don't know anybody doing one coat.
Two is good.
I have been shooting really soft, 8 BHN 45ACP lately with good success @ 900 fps.

Candy Apple Red & Kryptonite Green?
2 coats is all I need for 38 spec or 45acp.
