Dumb question, anyone cast for 25-06?

I figure it might be a bit fast for cast, but I would like to try, if I can find a Lee mould that would work.

No Lee's I'm aware of, but RCBS makes a 100 gr +/= that might work.

I’ve owned a 25-06. It was one of the best shooters that I’ve ever had. I don’t see why you couldn’t cast for it. You’ll have to slow it down some and maybe shoot a GC boolit. RCBS makes a .257-120-SP. RCBS No. 82016 that should work too.

For years I did, sized to .251 and patched back up with 16# paper. Then my hands got to messed up with RA to handle the patching. Used to shoot 105gr patched at 3010 into just under an inch.

I have a Lee 7mm mold but that is the smallest rifle mold they make as far as I know. If you used gas checks and got a heavy bullet design and kept the velocity down I don't see it being a problem.

The RCBS 257120 is a fine mold. I'm shooting it in an Encore 25-06. 12 grains of Unique, 18 grains of 5744 and 19 grains of 2400 will all produce 1 1/4" groups all day. Light all these will standard large rifle primers. I shoot a couple thousand rounds a year through this barrel and love every minute of it. Lee does not make a 25 caliber mold.

Thanks, guys, bummer on no cheap moulds. This was a gift rifle, Howa 1500 in 25-06, and I already love shooting it.

RCBS 257120, I'll save up for one, thanks!

Wow, I like the 114gn version.
I could see some serious paper patching with it.
Paper is stellar with my .30s, pdawg does great with his .25, Sooner or later, I will have one.
My 25-06 is a joy to shoot.

Forgot how much other molds than Lee cost, ouch, at the Midway price on RCBS!

My 25-06 is fantastic, straight shooter with easy recoil. Loves 90 gr bullets.

There was a group buy Lee 6-banger a couple of years ago. I think it was an 85 grainer. I have one, but have not shot any of the boolits yet. Sorry, not much help, but if you put up an ad on the WTB section, you might find someone willing to part with theirs. It won't be me. I want to try it in 25-06 and .257 Rbts.

    Regards,

    Stew

On the other hand, since we're relatively close, I could cast you some fishing sinkers and let you try them.

Thanks, Space, I have the dies, a set of Hornady Customs actually came with the rifle. Weirdest deal I ever got.
AZ-Stew, I'd be happy to take you up on that!

You could try Cast Bullet Engineering - not real cheap but a good selection of brass molds in Australian dollars. I use .25790 with 10gr of H110 in my 257 Roberts and get very good accuracy. Bullet weighs just under 100gr with gas check. If you want more speed it can obviously be pushed faster with other powders.
