First blood for my Clements Gp100.
NOE413234hp 2/2/96 waterdropped launched by 13.5 gr 2400 from Starline 41Special brass.

Great for U!!!!!!
How far a shot...?
Not long, 30 yards or so. He only went about 20, the bullet worked well. Broken near shoulder exit 1 1/2 ribs back. I may reduce the load a bit, he was plenty dead! Whole story in hunting forum.

Interesting article, but 10gr of Unique sounds pretty dang hot in 41special case! Too much for my tastes, in my GP100 anyway. Sure am glad Starline is making cases

I agree...10.0 in a Magnum case runs 1180 with a 210 grain bullet from a 4" barrel and is generally listed as top end for Unique...
From the testing I have done 7.0 grains of Unique runs the same a 8.0 in a Magnum case...so I would go no more than 9.0 is a Special case.
I concur with the comments of 10gr Unique & a 215.. that's a smoker. Wonder what the chamber pressure would be on that baby!? I load 6.5 Unique under my 215's for 1010fps, and it's a beauty load; very very accurate
Personally, I'd consider it safer running those upper 1200fps+ limits with slower powders vs. Unique... but that's just me. Certainly doable in the Special but a fast powder like Unique running that hot likely means a much sharper abrupt belch on the gun than a slower powder would induce. And being the specials are typically built on lighter gun-frames, probably wiser to go the slow burning route if a guy wants to run the chambering near max. In my opinion the slower powders' pressure curve will at least spread the strain through the whole guns frame & barrel rather than just a quick burst of strain inside the cylinder...
Might work good in the heavier 41special builds, if there were some powder shortage, a guy was pressed for a heavy load for some reason and you only had Unique, but I doubt 10gr should be attempted otherwise. Gotta be an awfully stout sucker, that one.
I too, was glad when Star-Line finally decided to make the .41spl a catalogue item.......
...you more than anyone else helped that along....

With a new to me 1966 vintage 3-Screw Ruger BH, using Starline Magnum brass, I get 1008 fps with 7.5 gr. of Unique and Lyman's 410459. I size to 0.411" (they drop from the mold within a cpl ten-thousandths of that dia.), using WW+2% tin and 50-50 lube. This is a very accurate load for me, just over an inch at 25 yds with Iron Sights. I also use the same load with RCBS's 41-215, sized the same. It's a little faster, but I haven't chrono'd it as yet. Accuracy is the same.
All the usual disclaimers: work up to these loads if interested after consulting a GOOD manual and considering the pressure implications.

Can anyone out there help me figure out what barrel lengths the Smith & Wesson 57no dash in the nickel finish was offered in?
I put together my first .41 mag rounds tonight. New caliber on a new press. I switched from the. Lee pro 1000 to a Lee classic turret. The rounds a re 9 grains of Unique under 210 Speer Deep Curls. Tommorow, I am going to load the same bullet over 21.5 grains of h4227. This weekend the casting begins!
I loaded a hundred range fodder Tuesday with 18.0 gr 2400 under a 215 gr copper plated FP Berry. Decided I needed to use up the copper I have so I can get back to cast, only have 800 of those little boogers to go. I know it's a tough job but someone has to do it.
Nice Yellowseven...what length barrel do you have?
The 9.0 grains of Unique load will run about 1100 from a 4" barrel. The 4227 load should be above 1200...
Minerat...I really love that bullet...it is my favorite factory inexpensive "shooter". I usually use it with 8.0 grains of Unique that runs 950 fps from a 4"....I think I still have a couple thousand hanging around from when I was buying from them wholesale...

Very nice Y7......what cast bullet are you making?
RJM52,
It is a fun plinker. I have loaded it with 6.4 gr Red Dot too it is a real soft load out of my 4-5/8" Blackhawk.
