I really like the NOE moulds with pins... but they are a different animal. I find that mine like the lead really hot... 700+. And I find that they cast really well once the pins get hot. To start my casting sessions I pre-warm my moulds on an electric hot plate to about 400 degrees, then I cast a couple of pours and bring the aluminum up to temp. If the bullets still do not fall off of the pins I warm the pins further with a small butane torch. Once the pins are up to temp the moulds drop wonderful bullets with every pour.
Picked up a good used/not abused four cavity Ideal 429-421 with handles, on a table at Coure d Alene gunshow this weekend, along with a new in package Williams Foolproof target sight, knobs for adjustment for $50 total. This thing oughta eat lead!
I love RNFP's. They work so well in my 32 and 38 guns. I can't put my finger on it but that ogive just looks perfect.
I got a new in the box, LYMAN Small block single cavity mold cut for the #358446, from fleabay.
It was still in the plastic, with the old shirt board grey striped box, wrapped in the old brown wax paper.
I gotta wait until next Friday until I can give it a try.
I also got a Used LEE 6cav 452-255-RF from one of our brothers here.
Looking forward to trying both out next week.
Never used the LYMAN #358446 before. I know it's "supposed" to be the original. 357MAG bullet. But for some reason my Family never used it.
And when I started my own casting set up, I just went with what I knew. And it didn't include the #358446, and I never asked why, now there's no one left to ask so I'll just have find out for myself. Really looking forward to it. Start with plain old COWW, see how it goes.
Use the same alloy for the LEE 452-255-RF. Gonna be kind of weird, a 1cav small block LYMAN mold & a LEE 6cav at the same time. Another new experience/combination.

Happiness is a Warm GUN & more ammo to shoot in it.

30 HVTH1 170 Grain LFN from Arsenal. Hoping this will make a good general purpose 30 cal boolit for my 300 blackout, 30-06, and 7.5 Swiss
311-121-RN-H5 5 cavity GC from NOE for my m1 carbine. Got lots of recommendations on this one, so I'm betting it's a keeper
Getting a new plug for Lyman minie molds to make plain bases and shallow cup bases.
Received a 45-360 grain muzzleloader mold from Accurate a few days ago, ran about 100 really nice looking bullets from it tonight. Already pan lubed, may not need to size them.
Just got a NOE .358100 RG2 and paid for a MP 358-165-RF-LARSEN. Both brass.

I just finished unpacking a Sears 4 drawer tool box full of Lyman moulds, 104 of them. Plus, assorted handles, 2 Lee moulds and 2 Hensley & Gibbs moulds with handles.
All are marked and sorted by number in the storage cabinet.

Former cylindersmith.
this is stamped Ideal. my only guess, is it is a mold for casting slugs to slug barrels. all the spots on this are globs of grease mixed with lint. it came in a box ofull of other molds............. which i eventually will post in the S&S section.
