This has been an expensive summer. I finally bailed out the 700 yesterday, but couldn't even scrape up an extra $20.00 for a box of factory ammo to go with it. Oh well, at least it's home now. I'll go ahead and get the scope mounted.

Cabelas just had their varmint rifles chambered in 6.5 crede on the 30 th last month for $399. My buddy chose a ruger American 30-06' for $429. He wanted a moose to mice one rifle does all. I might have to buy a crede one of these days. Saw some YouTube videos of 600 yards elk harvesting with the round. Personally, I would opt for at least an 06' or more for elk but to each it's own. I'm thinking it's gotta be an excellent target and whitetail round with extremely low recoil.

I'm looking forward to shooting it. I can't deal with much recoil and muzzle jump due to nerve issues, so maybe the 6.5 is the perfect round for me.

It's going to be great. A 26-250 equivalent is going to be gentle on your shoulder and kill deer just like that(snaps fingers).

I picked up a Savage 12 FV from Cabela's several months ago on sale. It's a 26" heavy barrel with accutrigger. All said and done it was $219 out the door.
I put it into a Boyd's Pro Varmint stock, 20moa base, 10x SWFA scope with mil reticle and mil adjustments. I put a cheap Caldwell bipod on it.
Starline small rifle primer brass, 41gr H4350, cci SRM primer and a 140gr Hor. ELD @ 2740fps groups sub moa for 5 rounds at 100 yards. hits steel easily out to 1250 yards. Furthest I've shot it so far.

Good grief, that's a deal!!

I broke down and got that NOE 6.5 Creedmoor bullet mold to try in my .260. Its not the perfect fit i dreamed of, but its a fit that is way better than my other molds. I am a fan of the 6.5s. I love my Grendel. Recoil is light and it is accurate. I love their cross sectional density.

The awesomest thing about the 6.5 is that, according to the usual standards of what makes for a trendy rifle cartridge, it should have stumbled out of the gate and not got up again in 2007. It's not a giant magnum nor is it a boutique cartridge for the AR-15. Its a squat little round that looks Dolly Parton top heavy when loaded with a 140 grain slug. In fact it even committed the blasphemy of having less powder capacity than the 6.5's that preceded it.
According to the usual standards by which new cartridges are judged, at best the 6.5 Creedmoor should have picked up a loyal benchrest or varminter following. Instead, the little 6.5 just keeps gaining momentum, to the point that it may join the tiny echelon of enduring cartridges that serve as the standard bearers for centerfire rifles. And I think that is great!

Well a 140g 6.5mm pill is rated for Class 3 game and a 140g 30 cal pill is not. You would need 180g 30 cal pill for class 3 game. A light little 130g 6.5mm pill is perfect for Class 2 game.

If it shoots good, reward it with a wood stock! If you set the barreled action in the sun till it's hot then rub in motor oil it will prevent rust for a long while. That's an old 870 Express trick.

Thanks, I will remember that tip. On the topic of stocks, I picked up a spare OEM stock and painted it satin granite gray. It looks great, I'll put it on after the paint has hardened. I'm planning to eventually get a Boyd's laminate stock for it.
On the topic of reloading: my plan is to squirt out a 140 grain Speer or Hornady slug at 2400-2500 fps with excellent accuracy. What powder might be ideal? This is a few hundred fps slower than the usual speed for these bullets in the 6.5. I was thinking something like IMR 4064, 4895, or XBR8208 might be good.

I have no experience with the xbr powder but your picks are good. IMR 4350 might be good with the 140s as well. It will probably be hard to find a bad load unless you really try. I also paint plastic stocks to give them some eye appeal.

If it's an ADL setup and has a plastic trigger gaurd I have an alloy one you can have.

Thanks alot. I'm pretty sure mine already has the metal trigger guard, will check. I really don't mind synthetic stocks, I just get so tired of the Model T paint selection most of them have. Would it really hurt to offer a few basic colors in addition? Black plastic does not feel good against your cheek when shooting on a warm day either!

I would suggest 143 ELDs with H4350 and CCI primers.
I will look up the charge weight, the only one that keeps coming to my brain is the one for the Grendel right now.
