Time to drag out the 25-06! That's a great deal you found.
Great deal! That's about half off!
You can miss fast & you can miss a lot, but only hits count.
Did you open it and check for deterioration? I had a can of 4320 from that era that went bad and ate through the can.

Score!
No rain on this parade. I'm pretty sure Larry knows the difference between good and bad powder.
I'm sure he does too, but I can't tell from the photo if the can is still sealed. Shops might not be too happy with customers whipping out their pocket knives to cut the top off of the sealed plastic spout to check it.
There's some powder from the mid-80s out there that was either insufficiently washed or insufficiently stabilized because it is going bad in spite of proper storage. I've owned a couple of cans of it myself and I know how it was stored.

I received an 8lb can from an estate. Priced right, very old and unopened. I made a few 243 rounds with it. Then, it sat around here too long.
Just this spring I opened it up again and I made the most accurate 45-70 gov load I have have ever had the joy to shoot in my 1886 Winchester'

Rem 9-1/2
51.5 IMR-4831
This is 3.5grs under the published load in my old IMR handout. A Very mild load.
Vertical at 200M is 2" for most groups. I would not have believed it had I not done it a bunch of times.
Sometimes a load/rifle just makes you smile!
It is now my lever load for the Cowboy Silhouette matches.
Larry, At $125 / 8lbs you can shoot a lot of fun loads for pennies a shot. Nice find!

42 grains of IMR 4831 under a 200 grain RCBS silhouette bullet is what I shoot in my Garand.

if you happen to have a 280 rem, that the go to powder for 140 to 160 gn bullets and best velocities..
as chill says, dupont used to recommend it for low pressure loads in 45/70.
keep safe,
bruce.
A close look at the price tag on top of the can and you'll see "sealed". The LGS owner let met "whip out my pocket knife" and open it because if it was good I was buying it. If it was bad he was throwing it away.
Believe it or not but I shoot a lot of jacketed bullets also........ this powder will probably be used in my 6.5x55 under 140 to 160s and my 7x57 under 150 to 175s.

I was just gifted an 8 lb can of mr3100 which The data sheet claims is grain for grain imr 4831. I was going to pass it on a buddy that shoots a lot of mag rifle but now I might have to work up some in the 45-70.
That was a screaming deal. One of my suppliers now gets just over $165 (plus the Haz-Mat costs and freight charges) for that same #8 container of IMR4831. It's a good thing (for you) that you saw it before me. Congrats.
