Currently running the NOE/Ranch Dog TL-230-RF in my 4.25" Redhawk. I launched that boolit as a group buy for .45 Auto - in the middle of which, a clever participant said "why don't you change the front TL groove into a crimper. I've got it moving about 1025 fps out of .45 Colt cases as kind of a gap-bridger between hot Auto and the Ruger/Casull Only loads that I really don't enjoy.
WWJMBD?
In the Land of Oz, we cast with wheel weight and 2% Tin, Man.
I like the Mihec 308 454 with all pin options. Wish I still had pix of carnage done to praire dogs and other varmints with it. Great deer boolit! Long enough to be Ruger big frame only.
The mihec 308 grain is a fantastic bullet. Especially with the Penta nose.
The accurate bullets Outpost75 showed look great but I have not found anything to outshoot my old Ly454424. I have seen 3 different cherries used in the ones I have gone through and I am sure there are more variants out there.
[The Montana Gianni] Front sight and squeeze
Another vote for the 308 454. I don’t have the pins but we have shot them beyond 1000 yards and they will outshoot me
MP-270-SAA for hunting and 454190 for everything else. Have went to HS-6 for the 454190 and still H110 for the big, flat, fat boolit.
I like the NOE 454-290-rf rg shoot as a cup or hollow point in my Blackhawk henry BBS and my super redhawk 454 works good in all them
RCBS 255--.454 ....that one will probably always be my favorite. Everyone remembers their first!!!!!!!!
if I had to pick only one id take the rcbs swcgc 300. Never found a gun that didn't shoot that bullet extremely well.
I have several of the previously mentioned molds. My BH really likes the 45-270 saa too. I am looking forward to the Mihec group buy (rf/lfp) with a cup point for deer hunting. That said, I am sure a 45-270 saa above 1000fps will be more than adequate!
Mihec 270SAA penta hp or Dry Creek 265gr. from my stash....both are accurate from a Uberti Birdshead at 25yds. which surprised me from the short barrel.
I like the 300gr Lee but have started casting the 350/325gr NOE boolit in 45 Colt and 460 S&W.
Lyman's 454190 (hope I got the mold number right)...I cast mine from 1:3 (Pb/WW) with just a pinch of tin for mold fill out. I air cool and get ~2" gps at 25 yds from both a 7-1/2" bbl'd Colt SAA and a New Vaquero with a 4-5/8" bbl. Both guns are more accurate than I can hold (what a surprise eh?). Eight grains of Unique and a stout crimp do the deed when I do I my part.
It's a big slug, and that semi-pointed look has meant business for well over a hundred years.
Best Regards, Rod
RCBS 45-255-SWC. Ruger New Vaqueros, 4 5/8 and 7 1/2" barrels.
Kills whitetail easily, pass through shoulder shots.
