Old cotton towels. I did consider silicone baking pans once, but when I went to look for them my wife had donated them to the homeless shelter...

Did I ever mention that I hate to trim brass?
I must be the odd man out
I have a wooden box that I put a shop rag in and start dropping the bullets out of the mold onto it
at some point the shop rag gets covered with bullets
keep dropping on top of these
don't notice any dents

My wife covered some 1/2" sponge with denim and I've been using them for years. On occasion a hot bullet bumps one of the previous bullets but have never noticed any problems that way. And the denim is still scorch free. If I cast long enough the whole batch just gets swept into the catch box at the rear and no problems there either.

I've been dropping onto a couple of old terry cloth towels that my bride sandwiched and stitched around a piece of thick carpet for me...gentle bounce factor and no dings in my castings. I think I'd like to try the idea the OP suggested. Who knows? I might like it better. That's what I like about this site, sometimes you guys show me a better way, like cutting old bicycle inner tubes to make really durable rubber bands that hold my mold block halves securely. I regurgitated that a few years back and use it in another hobby and to those guys I sound like I'm a genius. I love to learn all about your successes and your not quite successes.

a cotton towel works pretty well for me either (With a yoga mat under it)
Ahrggg, it doesn't work very well. Its heat proof but it sheds black fuzz like a alley cat. I guess the towel trick is better, oh well live and learn.
FWIW; I cast some 45 cal 225 gr. RN bullets of my "soft" alloy , approx 9-10 BHN. I dropped them on a folded bar towel and often on top of each other from a height of approx. 3"-4". I found none with handling dings, and some even missed the towel and fell into the cake pan...
My Anchor is holding fast!
Old wooden fruit box with cotton tea towels in a couple of layers ,when full lift out top towel then carry on with the next one .when the first lot has cooled into a plastic tub I use to tumble lube .
All good ideas but a folded cotton towel has been working just fine for many years. When it gets all scorched up I get another hand me down from the Mrs. and start again.
For water drop which I haven't done lately I would float a big sponge on top of the water in a 5 gal. bucket. the boolit hits and then the sponge rolls over. Kind of cool to watch but then I am a simple man
I use a roll of roof flashing saved from melting to protect my clubs table. With wool gloved hand, I pick up and drop in can or something and a second for obvious rejects. The lead will roll and unroll forever.
