Might be able to make an inline triple ball load in a thick petal non-toxic shot type wad for the 28ga. with that ball size. Larger guages however you wouldn't be able to get proper stacking layers until you got all the way up to a 6ga. or larger !!!!!
well yea i tried a load of 100 of them in the cannon didn't have a very good patern. steve k
I shoot them one at a time, with a patch around them, don't need a quick back up shot. I have shot some out of a 20 guage with shot cup. Good turtle load, makes them jump. Im an old farm boy, 1/2 an hr loading can be 1/2 a day playing.
Years ago when M/L season rooled around, with the sear bbroken on my H&R 45cal Huntsman,Iset out to use my 12 guage dbl M/L. None of the slugs that I cut from shells would fit in my cylinder bore barrels. With season fast approaching, Idecided to try some 451rbs that I shot in my 1851 New Model Army cap and ball revolver. After shooting the front stuffer with 5 rbs down each barrel,I figured that about 25yds was about max range. Didn't get a shot though, had the H&R fixed before the next year
A good rule of thumb for a Tri-Ball load in any gauge is the multiply the bore (gauge) X .82
That gives about the right size ball to put into a steel shot wad with .025" tp .040" thick wad petals.
Example: a .730" bore X .82 = .5986" or rounded off at .600" round ball.
