Nice haul!
That Jade Lion pot is probably 97%. Nice score.

I found them online, I ask 2 questions, 1) is it marked pewter 2) how heavy is it.
This batch I plan on smelting then casting into .530 round balls = 224 grains = 1/2 oz.
to make alloying easier.
I turned
into
(I didn't have any round balls close to the right size so I used a mini)
Now I have a bunch of 1/2 oz. pewter boolits for easy alloying
I paid $1.58 for this, feels about like half a pound. No Hallmarks. Very bendable, sure feels like Pewter. Does it look real?
I'm no expert but it sure looks like pewter, look it over, and over well, everywhere! Look's to lavish not to be marked, I've had engraved pieces with very small "pewter" hand engraved right into one of the scenes. On one I wouldn't have found it without the help of my magnifying lamp, it was very small and on a beveled edge. http://www.cabelas.com/product/clamp...mp/1439363.uts
What the heck was it? Bolivia, interesting.
Be careful what you wish for!
Dam, what did we do before the internet and google? Remember those days when the local library was your best way to research stuff and hope like hell you found a book with info after an afternoon of searching? Here's what I found with a few clicks looking for "Bolivia Pewter"
There's your piece--> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pewter-Me...item44120572c9

I picked up that exact same plate with exactly the same touch mark at Goodwill today! Only difference was that mine weighed an ounce less. I'm finding it very common to see weight variations of 4-5% from otherwise identical pewter objects, even from the same set.
No dragons, though...
Congratulations, you will soon be smelted. Heh.
I picked this Rickers pewter figurine up at Goodwill for 2 bucks today. Weighs just shy of a pound with the base. Since this is not food service pewter, I suspect it may have some lead in it. Anyone know what these things were made out of? The piece is dated in the 80s. I also wonder if the congratulations plaque is pewter or something else.
When you care enough to send the very best, send an ounce of lead.
Edit: weighs 2 pounds 6 oz. my first estimate probably had a little ‘irrational exuberance’.
Almost questioning whether it’s real now.

As real as it gets. Nice find.

Made my first 2 pewter scrounging trips this weekend at the local thrift stores. Day 1 yielded up 2 glass bottom Stieff mugs, 1 solid bottom International Pewter mug, and 1 Seagull item that I am guessing is meant to hold a votive candle? Yielded 2lbs, 12.1oz for $5.50.
Day 2 yielded 2 jefferson cups that I forgot to take pictures of.
Long story short, my first 2 trips yielded up 3lbs, 5.7oz for $7.50. Right at $2.63 per pound.
Now that I have the tin for mold fillout, I need to find something to harden my range scraps up to 15 bhn for my rifle rounds.

For hardening I would think about adding some rotometals superhard. Seems like the easiest, most cost effective way to add antimony.
When you care enough to send the very best, send an ounce of lead.
I was thinking the same. Holding out hope that I can score some linotype or monotype somewhere. I like to load for cheap
My range scrap hardens nicely when water dropped.

As a frugal person, I am right there with you. That said, lino and mono are hard to come by. If you do the math, it takes very little to get your antimony levels up. Since I would mostly use this for high powered rifle loads (30-06, maybe top end 35 Rem and 44 mag rifle), a couple dollars of superhard is oK. These aren't high volume loads for me, and an awful lot of what I do can be done with either range scrap or COWWs with some tin added.
When you care enough to send the very best, send an ounce of lead.
My range scrap is 12-14 BHN air cooled and water drops to 19-21 BHN.
