Not sure if this has already been discussed.
In short Silencerco released a suppressed muzzle loader that is legal to own without any special tax stamp from the BATF. As I understand it, in the eyes of the BATF a muzzleloader is not a firearm, therefore they are perfectly legal to suppress. The only requirement is that the suppressor must be permanently attached.
I am not really interested in buying a Maxim 50 for a number of reasons, but I am fascinated by the possibilities this could open up.
Could any muzzle loader be legally suppressed?
What about a Sharps falling block that takes paper cartridges?
How about an antique firearm that was made prior to 1899? As I understand the BATF doesn’t see these as firearms either, so would it be legal to suppress one?
