38 super vs 38 auto question about the brass

I know the 38 super operates at a higher pressure but how much is the old 38 auto brass capable to operate at a higher pressure in a 38 super pistol ? Does any one have any exp. in this area of increased loading using 38 auto brass over 38 super brass. Thanks

I've reloaded .38 Super for many years. I don't see any difference in the actual brass; and have reloaded both to the same velocity.

Years ago when i played with the 38 super, I blew out the sides of the case using 30 auto brass. Not on everyone but I never knew when it would occur. The case bulged more that the super brass kind of like Glocked brass does. This was 40 years ago and they were loaded hot. Newer 38 auto brass may now be the same as the super, just relabeled. But I would use caution.

The 38 super brass is thicker internally to handle the increased pressure at the unsupported area at the feed ramp. If using 38 Auto brass I would not load it above 38 auto pressures. You may need a lighter recoil spring for the reduced loads.
Any source I have seen says never load the 38 Auto at 38 Super pressures.
