I just dump them into a scrap brass bucket and sell them to a scrap yard about once a year or when the bucket gets full.
I have jars full of them.

it wasn't too long ago scrap brass was well over 2$ a lb.
I save mine against the day when I might need to figure out how to refil and reuse them. Recipes and chemicals are stashed. Still as long as I can buy for reasonable I will just save the used ones.

Some of my favorite recipes start out with a handful of depleted counterbalance devices.
I had never thought to save them. When I got into casting a friend provided me with a bunch of indoor range scrap. I still have all of the jackets that I skimmed off. Maybe I need to visit the scrap yard.
