Wow, gunshot! You really know how to make a feller HONGRY!!! When I was a kid, we had a number of pear trees, and when the neighbors and friends got all they wanted, and my brother and I sat out (dodging the yellow jackets while doing so!) and ate pears that fell on the ground, we'd pick the rest up and take them to the local pear buyers for "Christmas money." I'll forever have a soft spot in my heart for pear cobbler!!! Absolute heaven, and with some vanilla ice cream on top, just Royal Heaven! How great we had it as kids, and we just thought it was a given!

My entire childhood, we would pick and eat pears from my grandparents' land. My mom now lives there and this year we picked A BUNCH of pears. We'll end up giving away about 3/4 of them to neighbors, friends, and co-workers. We've so far just been eating them as they ripen (peeling/coring), which means we're eating about 10-20 pears per day. My older 2 are starting to get tired of them, but my 8 yo daughter would eat them as long as I'm willing to cut them up for her. They sure get sweet when they ripen!

One thing that really cut down on the wasps and hornets is the fact that my mom has a couple of miniature horses that eat most of the pears that fall on the ground. I'm much less nervous up on that ladder this year than in previous years.
