New Hampshire just banned lead fishing jigs (with hooks) of one ounce or less. They say it is to protect loons. I wonder if they ever found a loon with a one ounce jig in its stomach that died of lead poisoning rather than the hook killing it.

Massachusetts did the same thing only sinkers too, for the same reason, loons.
A CA condor caught a loon that had eaten a lead jig and died...lol
Do you mean the bird variety or the human variety? They say it is to protect loons.
The real Loons are making these laws
Vermont did that some years ago on the same theory. It has no scientific basis in fact. On the other hand, all of those baitshops with lead jigs and sinkers that they can't sell now should be having a fire sale.

This has actually been in place for some time. All lead sinkers have been banned for a number of years here in NH.
We have loons on the lake just down the road from us and they seem to be doing just fine thank you. There are three nesting pair. The biggest threat to them are the idiots that think it is OK to zoom past them on their ski boats or sneak up on them with their kayaks.
They will abandon their nests and/or their young if you do that.

A bear, however hard he tries, grows tubby without exercise.
That, unfortunately, has been reduced to just a slogan on the license plates.
BUT, compared to most, we are still doing better than the vast majority. We have no state sales or income tax, we are gun friendly, and are mostly a conservative state.
We just watch Massachusetts and do the opposite.

that last sentence should be your new state slogan.
This does explain why Walmart has a good stock of tin splitshot which come in handy for my boolit casting when I need just a little. One size 7 tin splitshot goes a long way. Always a silver lining???
It's all for making the liberal's utopia. It's their religion.
We don't need to fish....the loons are so important
You know I have typed 3 witty responses and then erased them. Decided you are nearly 2500 miles from me and as long as you keep the loons there we will be all right.
