Came across 8 pounds of Win 571. They wanted $15.25 a can. Should I buy it or not? What would you use it for?

It's the same as HS-7 so use that data if you can't find it for 571. Winchester 14th Edition has load data and is available for download if you run a Google search for it. It's a shotshell/handgun powder.
If you use either of the two powders mentioned ...yes ! and good luck finding any cheaper,if you don't use said powders ...no lolz

if it was easy would it be as worthy ? or as long of lasting impression ? the hardest of lessons are the best of teachers [shrugz]" To sit in judgment of those things which you perceive to be wrong or imperfect is to be one more person who is part of judgment, evil or imperfection."

So, please share some of your 357 and 571 info if you would be so kind!

Winchester 571 is an excellent powder in the 10mm, especially with 180 gr. bullets and heavier. If I was closer, I'd be pressuring you to find out where it is.......
Hope this helps.

Thank you PB, someone gave me a can and I have been trying to figure out what I wanted to use it for.

I am Retired, I was tired yesterday and I am tired today!!!
Thank you for the feedback, it will be used wisely.
at that price I'd buy it and find some use for it
Buy it!
BTW, it meters great through progressives.
$15.25 per pound.
I got a bunch of W-W 571 in a trade, when the dust settled it was just about "free". As far a load data, any load with HS-6 will probably be safe with W-W 571 (HS-7).
I use it in 357 mag, asa well as in the 44 Spl and 44 Mag. It compares very closely to "Blue Dot".
It is a funky powder, seems to work well with certain primers, others not so well. Look for pressure indications on the primer or chrono for ES/SD. I've concluded that the CCI 550 SPM is the primer for the 357, and CCI 300 LP a winner by a small margin for the 44's. My loads are not max. and they don't work well if reduced.
Seems to be a good match when used with gas checked bullets, 358156, 38-158-SWC, 429434 and 429244. app 9 gr for the 357 and app 12 for the 44 mag.
571 or HS-7 was most popular in the past for loading heavy lead shotshell loads for waterfowl, lead is now illegal for such use and use of said powder declined.
I'd probably pick up the 571 for the uses described above.. and just in case you didn't know it, Winchester is making a slightly slower 572 now..
I would buy a pound and try it out.
I did this with 473AA. An unwanted pound was given to me. I looked up it's burn rate chart and soon had decent range ammo in .45.ACP.

It can be used in cast rifle and lead / jacketed handgun loads, but it really shines to load a high velocity 1 oz 20 gauge field load. I used it quite a bit for my upland bird loads in my Browning BSS shotgun. I still have about 5 pounds of W571 squirreled away for a "rainy day" along with some W540 ...
I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't reached my "Expiry" date!
I had a can of it. it came in what looked like a gallon paint can. I Shot it all up. I liked it. used it in my 45 acp.
Dont pee down my back and tell me its raining.
HS-7/Win 571 best 1 oz. 20 ga. Hi-Vel load. I know this is an old thread and this is a discontinued powder but if you run across a deal, it's good stuff.
