Length of some lee .45 cal cast boolits?

Hey all, looking for a little help here. I'm trying to locate the length of certain Lee .45 cal pistol bullets, to find one for a certain twist barrel rifle I have. Specifically, anyone cast these and if so could you measure the length and post it? I'm trying to find one with a length of between .500-.600" long and hope that one of these moulds may drop at my needed length: 452-200RF; 452-255RF; TL452-230TC; 452-230TC; 452-252SWC. Also, if you cast the Lee 429-200RF, please send that in too.

If anyone knows of where to find posted bullet/boolit length info, let me know. Thanks.

Why don't you tell us what you are shooting and We'll tell you what works for us.

My Lee 452-200 RF measured .530", and the 425-252 SWC measured .665"

Cool, i'm trying to work up a boolit for my Pops' old 1:48 twist, TC Hawken 28" barrel. I know that a Keith 454424 SWC, which casts at .700" long will only marginally stabilize in this barrel/twist combo. With from 60gr-100gr of GOEX black, I can get no better than 6" groups, swabbing after each shot, at 50 yds. I also have tried all the various MMP and Harvester sabots(they each sent me 10 each to try for different barrel sizes. After getting on Berger bullets site and using their twist rate calculator, my .700" long SWC is pushing 1.15 on their scale, and is of only marginal stability. A length of .500-.600 would be optimal in length in order to stabilize, but try finding these Lee boolits listed with their lengths is like finding hens teeth. Tried posting on the muzzleloading forum and didn't get any responses with what I asked for: bullet lengths for .45 cal boolits to use in sabots. I just got, basically, 'your gun will shoot sabots'.

I need to find a boolit between .5-.6 to use, preferably a Lee pistol boolit, and need someone who's cast some of these to mic them and post it, because I can't find out lengths anywhere in my search. I know this gun will shoot and need to find a .45 cal pistol boolit around .5-.6" and even though i'm solving for a ML, I'm seeking info on pistol boolits on this forum because it's perhaps more appropriate to extract this info here, in order to buy a mould to cast the length I need.

Thanks, Castingfool! Does the 452-200RF shoot well for you, and have you fired it out to 100yds?

As a little let's see what happens experiment in my 50 cal 1:60 twist I tried the lee 200 gr rf using a suitable thickness cloth patch . They all hit nose first on target at 50 yds with minute of deer vitals at that range . So I would guess they would stable in your 1:48. Not what your asking about but the shorter lee real bullet also does quiet well and no need for sabots
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

All info is good info and I appreciate you relaying your experience, RU shooter. I was thinking/wondering how well these shot and may give that a try. A 200gr RF, with it's big meplat, would work well on PA whitetails out to 75 yds--all I can do anymore, even with going to a tang peep to make the front a little less fuzzy.

Recaster, thank you as well. I had that on my list but forgot to list it. Must be a senior moment!

I have to do some work to improve accuracy. I mostly shoot those out of a Ruger Blackhawk, 15-20 yds. My eyes don't do well with iron sights. Out of my Henry BBS, I'm getting 2"-3" groups at 50 yds. I would like to try the 452-255 RF, which has a higher ballistic coefficient than the 200 RF.

I'd really like to be able to find Lee Precion's PDF on mould specs/lengths, etc. Thanks for this info, Petroid. I'm probably not as computer literate as most. If you've seen it, can you provide a pathway to find this PDF?

Special thanks to Bullwolf. Just what I was looking for, and thanks to all who helped out in providing boolit lengths to me in this post. Cast Boolits is an awesome site and wouldn't be if not for the unique, special people who are the members. Thanks again!
