    Critique my first attempt

Held out on PC for quite some time. Always intrigued but had too much going on to dive into something new. Anyways finally dove into it. Thanks to bangerjims posts and azjim I felt I was on the right track. Couldnt find any black ASBB so I just used some 0.12g camo colored ones I had laying around. Forgot the NSAF and tweezers. Ended up using parchment paper and some safety scissors for kids. DT in Ziploc screw in container with HF red. Baked 400ish for 15 mins pre heated.

Oh and these were previously aloxed boolits that I quickly rinsed off with mineral spirits. Too cold in AZ to cast right now

Welcome to the wild and wonderful world of powder coating. I bake mine at 400 for 20 minutes, as I was told than was how long it took to cure HFR. Hopefully 15 minutes works for you.

Coverage looks good in the thumbnail. I have used parchment paper from the beginning, works well for me!
Did you do a smash test to see of PC stays on?

I hope 15 is good! Read too many conflicting times. 10 mins. 30 mins. 45 mins!!! Bah!!!! Toasted only goes to 15 so I figured that was good enough lol.

I just fell of my couch,,, too cold in AZ. [it's minus 13 right now]
I do most of my casting in the winter as it's too hot in the summer.

I just blew a cup full of perfectly good 50/50 (Amarula & Half&Half) thru my nostrils when I read that "too cold" thing. It's 14-degrees here outside of Booise, Idaho.

The only good test of time and temperature, from what I read here, is does the coating come off in the bore...

15 minutes AT 400 is fine
Bullets look good as well. It takes a few batches to get your technique down
Then you will be coating like a pro

Its impossible to smelt or cast in the summer. There's only a few good months to cast so I have to make big batches at during those seasons not too bad in the late afternoon. Might try some fresh alloy next week and see how they come out.

+1. Look real good to me.

I bake mine for 10 minutes after they start looking wet. Usually just set the timer at 12-13 minutes total and works perfect. I follow the directions these fellows worked out by trial and error, and get great results.

Khmer, the parchment paper works great for me. It tends to get a little brittle with use, yet a piece of the paper lasts a loooog time as long as I don't mess it up.

Too cold?????? I too live in AZ and just finished casting 800 slugs yesterday AM! Temp was in the upper 30's. Wife was inside watching that stupid parade.

I bake ALL my powders 10 min only (after the powder turns shiny). That is all it takes. Period. All pass the cubed hammer test with flying colors (pun intended). The cube test is the ultimate test for PC'ing.

I go for perfect coated boolits. Many do not. I am a perfectionist in everything I do. But....as long as the tops of the grease grooves are coated, you are good to go.

Good coatin' & shootin' in 2016!

Went to the store and bought some NSAF. My paper was sticking a bit ita old. Tried some mihec 75gr 227. I didn't want any lead bleeding through. Desire for a full on red. Took out of oven at 10 mins. Rolled them onto a paper plate. Let them cool for a minute. Dumped them back in the powder and shook. Baked another ten minutes. Wow!!! I'm hooked!!! Went ahead an ordered some sky blue on eBay from powderbuythe pound

It appears your powder may be a bit too heavy, but they should shoot just fine.

Here are some 230gn 358's I did at Christmas:

    "Blue Christmas Devastators"

These are BBDT with Smoke's blue, but I get the same smooth finish with HF red. Be sure and tap off excess powder when picking them up.

Your sizing die will bring uniformity to the drive bands and make them as smooth as glass.

    Keep up the good work.
