that bottom target looks like you shot it with a mickey mouse gun.
do ya see it?
I use unique for fun target loads with my 308 .155g with gc and dacron filler sized .309 1450fps. ok'ish accuracy 1.5 inch at 50m. 11grains unique with GC no filler 1589-1606 fps 1" group at 50m . 173grain with GC sized .309 1428 to 1441 fps 1.75" group at 50m. 205gr no GC 1302 1340 fps 1" group.

I started out with 9gr Unique with the 100gr short jacket. I think it was published in a NRA publication. I didn't like the accuracy (.308 Win.) so I worked up. Now my standard .308 j-word plinker load is 15gr Unique with either the Hornady or Speer 100gr short jacket. I have also used large pistol primers with these.
It was the perfect training ammo for my boys when they were little. Nobody hears the gun or feels the recoil when shooting at game. The boys learned the rifle well with the low power ammo then when it came time to take game there was nothing to it.
Another very accurate plinker load is a Hornady 100gr HP in .280 Rem. Powered by 15gr Unique. This load shot 1958to2023 f/s over 5 shots and shot a .925 inch 5 shot group at 100 yards from my model 700 Mountain Rifle.

I never chronyed it myself, but 10.8 under a 405 gets about 965fps out of my long barreled 45-70 buffalo classic. A nice mild and accurate plinker too.
My results yielded that 11.0 grains of Unique gave slightly tighter groups than 10.0, 10.5, 11.5 and 12.0 with the 236 grain Lee 8mm Karabiner in the 8x57. Good 100 yd plinker.

115 gr lyman 311008 in a 30-30 using 8.0 gr Unique clocked just under 1500 fps for me.

I think he's referring to the second of the three targets .... the pattern is almost a perfect silhouette of Mickey Mouse.
Disney could possibly file suit for copyright infringement over that one.

OK, Sorry but I've lost my decoder ring............

I bet 10gr would work but I use 8gr under a 240gr RN plain base from a LEE mold in my old 44 mag Virginian Dragoon using the same lot of softer than normal COWW lead I set aside for 38spl loads. Hits the coffee cans at 200yrds every time with factory irons unless I say "watch this" and jinx myself.
Sadly I sold that 44mag back to its original owner when he moved into some serious bear country.
The rare exception to my "never sell a gun" rule is if the former owner begs and pleads a good case, but it will often cost them dearly.
Winchester '94 Carbine, .32 Win Special -- 10 gr. of Unique gives right at 1350 fps under a 170 gr. cast RNFP with no gas check. A nice, pleasant shooting load, very accurate, well, minute of Coke can, anyway! I've never sat down with a rest and a paper target with it. It's just a fun gun to shoot, and I'm a shooter, not a hunter.

7TCU in a 10 inch contender pistol 10.0 Uniqe averages 1580fps with a NOE 135 "thor". About max in this case though, will go a lot faster with slower powder. 8.0 is better shooting but the 10 load ain't bad.
11.7 gr in my wife's 243 is a wonder for accuracy. MV is 1850 with an 87 gr Loverin style boolit.
Ben, your second from the bottom target looks like "mickey mouse" ears, from the old mickey mouse club show.
I've been using this load for years in my Mosin M44. It works great with 150 grain FMJ and 160 grain cast; very accurate with little recoil. It's really good for when I have to use an indoor range.
10 grains of Unique clocks in at 1250 FPS, while 12 grains is about 1570. I recently cast some 311284 215 grain boolits sized to .309 for it, and they all keyholed. I must have made them too hard. They work fine in my .300 BLK upper, so I can still use them. I'll have to try a softer alloy next time.
Not 10 as you stated, but a bit of thread drift to 10.5 grains with Lee 340 grain cast, shot out of original 1886 gave right at 1100 fps and one hole group at 50.

Ok guys.
I think you have given me a starting load for all my rifles with a Lee 230 gr .309 that was designed for the 300 Blackout.
I want to try that bullet in my .308 win, .30-06 and .300 Win Mag.
If it works well, then I will buy another mold and hone it out to .316 for my MN's and LE's
The bullet is a Boat Tail design and meant for Sub sonic.
But I want to see how it does at higher speeds.
Unique qill be a good starting point for comparrison.
I too have gained a huge lot of info from this page. Definitely following.
Will this load also work with jacketed or just cast?
