Oh, love the .41 Enfield!
Oh, love the .41 Enfield!
I just purchased a Taurus Tracker revolver in .41 Rem. Mag. My wife loves the gun despite it's somewhat sharp recoil. I have shot some Tru-Cast 210 grain bullets using
a charge of 19.0 gr. SR-4759. I have been playing around with lighter loads and the 15.0 grain charge seems to work just as well as the 19.0 grain payload. I have yet to buy a
mould for this gun, but plan to as soon as I slug the barrel and measure the cylinder throat. This should end up in lots of fun!
Dancingbear....that is a GREAT rifle... I have three of the .41 Marlin Carbines and they are great shooters. Also have one of the TC Collectors Assoc. 16.5" carbine barrels with a Choate stock...all of them shoot great.

ELK...I have three of the Trackers...Ti 4", Ti 6" and a stainless like yours. Taurus also made a 6" stainless but I have never seen one.
My favorite load is 8.0 grains of Unique with most any bullet. With its short cylinder like the FA97 it works even better with Special length brass. Would be nice if Starline would make another run. I just kick myself for not keeping more of what I had.

Looking forward to further activity concerning the .41 Mag. on the forum. I have 2: a S&W 657 6" w/full underlug(may be the only way they were made) and a Ruger SST Bisley, 5.5" I think.
I bought 500 Starline brass several years ago. Haven't lost any yet.

Does anyone have any .41 Magnum loads using PB powder? I have a large canister of PB that is seeming to last forever. I use 7 grains in .45 Colt behind a 250 grain cast semiwad cutter. That would be in a Ruger Vaquero. It goes 700-800 fps. Now I want to use some PB in a 3 screw Blackhawk .41 Magnum. I cast 210 grain LEE bullets. I can't find any PB load data for .41 Magnum. If I use my powder drop already set for 7 grains is this a good start point for the .41? I wanted a bit higher than 700-800 fps. Thanks, Paul
Check the reloading books for .44 Magnum and if there are any loads for PB you should get an idea where to start with a .41. Having loaded PB in some pistols a LONG time ago 7.0 grains isn't going to hurt that Blackhawk...
For a 6" the balance is very nice...and shoots great. I can't remember if these were shot at 15 or 20 yards...the left was double action slow fire and the right rapid fire...
I have only seen three 6" TiTrackers for sale, none of the stainless 6". They were only brought in for a few months before Taurus discontinued them.
This is my friends .45 ACP...15 shots at 10 yards DA...another impossible to find gun...

Thanks! Nice photos and great guns. I had forgotten about the .45 ACP version.
A great .41 powder is 800x-- can go from 5-6 on the bottom end to 12-13 with 210-230 gr- can be very accurate-- for a while 800x is all I used works best with 200-230 gr
Herco also works well
most accurate loads 12gr 800x under 210-230 gr
20 gr H110 and 225K shoots well
22 gr 296 and same keith shoots great --of course all this depends on the gun and you
-- 17.5 gr AA#9 208 gr LFNGC HP all touch at 25 yards--from a group buy of a Mia mold
18 gr and SSK 290 gr bullet -- from an 8 3/8 barrell 1300 fps and 2'' open sights at 50 yards-- wish I'd kept that 6 gun
cast some of the 290 with soft nose HP worked great on deer
normally use 208 -230 weights in my .41s
I too have a 4" tracker-- which I like
also have some Gary Reeder wildcat .41s

Here are some plinking loads I use in my 41 BH. They are 700 to 1000 fps. Using the Saeco #417 or the Lee TL mould. Bullseye 5 to 6gr. TiteGroup 5 to 7gr. Hp-38 5 to 6gr. Trailboss 6gr. You have a lot of room to go up on these but I've found these accurate with very little recoil. Beer cans don't get killed any deader with magnum loads. GP
I have read that 800X can get real squirrelly real fast on top end loads...especially if the temperature changes...
Have you chronographed any of the loads?
Bob
alamogunr....As far as I have read the 657 full underlug was only made in 6.5" and 7.5" (measured from the front of the cylinder to the muzzle).... I have one of the very early 6.5" Hunter Models with the 6.5" barrels and it is an excellent shooter...

I have the Raging Bull ported in .45LC it is no longer made and it's a shooter with great target sights.

my first handgunned deer was with 20 H110 Lyman 410459 1205 fps 6.5 Blackhawk
195 lee HP 22 gr of old 2400 8 3/8 Smith 1749 -- no accuracy but fast

In my Clements GP100 41 Specials (5" barrels) I use
#41-210T 6.7 grains Herco 1000 fps
#41-250A 6.5 grains Herco 925 fps
Another load tried is
41-250A 14.1 grains IMR4227 874 fps
I settled on the Herco loads.
I'm a big fan of the 41Mag. My pet load for hunting is a 250 gr LBT behind 20 gr H110. Sadly I'm using commercial cast but looking out for a mold so I can start pouring my own. Looking forward to learning more on this board about the 41 Mag but also the 357/38, 45 Colt, 475 Linebaugh/480 Ruger. Here's my current 41 Mag hunting iron.
I was opting to go 41 spl with some lighter 180 gr RN bullets I had made by LBT.. They drop .412" and need be sized down to .411. I enjoy shooting them in my 7.5" 657 with 4.0 gr of Hodgdon Titegroup for an avg Velocity of about 750 fps. Nice and light and I enjoy shooting this beastie in ICORE.. I had the cylinder machined for moon clips and I use Starline brass exclusively.
