Congrats on a nice rifle, looking forward to a range report. As I've said elsewhere the 1895 makes absolutely no sense to me; it's big, heavy even looks a bit clumsy....everything a levergun shouldn't be, IMHO. That said, I would really like to add one to my collection someday. Every one I see grabs my eye and pulls at my heartstrings. I love the lines of the receiver and the obvious strength of the action.

Think you will like it. Mines is 30-40 krag and it shoots very well.
Beautiful rifle.
Is this newer production, or something vintage. Looks great, thinking because it's a Browning, might be something made more recently ??
Chris
Mine, also in 30-06, is one of my most trusted, most accurate rifles. Watch your head spacing and even though it's a newer Browning, warm loads are OK, but hot loads aren't such a good idea and aren't needed anyway.
You are gonna have a ball with that.

Could you define "hot"? 2700fps or higher w/ j-words?

Although subjective, for a modern manufacture Browning, I would consider anything over 56,000 psi as "hot".
The original model '95 in 30-06 chamberings, was designed to handle original 30-06 cartridge (chamber) pressure, which was 48,000 psi. I keep mine down below 40,000.

Thanks, was wondering about the capabilities of earlier '95s. My modern bolt guns sometimes don't much care for max or even close to max loads (J-words). That's OK by me.

Range Report from last weekend....
Well we made it out on Saturday afternoon, but due to Friday being a washout with rain, I didn't get the chance to shoot where we usually do. I tried it out at friend's property but only a few shots. Love the accuracy (just shooting some factory rounds that came with it), but was really surprised with the recoil. Much more than expected, maybe it was just ammo I used...federal premium, 180 grain partitions.

I suspect that your Federal Premium with 180 partition bullet is right up toward the top for -06 pressure though I have not fired a factory round in many years. The 95 is known for stiff recoil and with the classic .405 Win, it can be brutal. My 95 is in .30-40 and with a paper patched cast bullet at 2200-2300 fps it is tollerable but all I want on either end. I would shoot anything in the Western hemisphere with that gun and load and do so with confidence.
P.S.
Heavy bullets do not recoil so sharply as do light bullets.
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the trouble with many shooting experts is not that they're ignorant; its just that they know so much that isn't so.
Nice rifle wish I could find one I could afford.
They do have a stout recoil. Even with the comparatively mild loads that I shoot, the recoil is enough to let you you've been shooting.
