What to do with spent primers ?

I have one of BT's systems for 22 rim fire to .224 diameter boolits. Obviously, we sort out the good brass from the bad & sell off as scrap what we don't use. I obtained around 100 lbs of 22 empties from a scrapyard. There must be thousands of spent primers in there. What kind of scrap metal would they be ? Wonder if they are worth anything, anybody know ?

They're brass. Scrap them with your junk cases.

I sell them as scrap with the brass I can't load. My recycler takes them without question.

    Hope this helps.

I've heard of people who sprinkle them of their roof to prevent algae growth. Don't know how well this works, haven't tried it yet. Don't like ladders? Load 'em in shotshells...

Actually, zinc wheel weights will do that.
Wire brush/wheel the w-w to expose the metal and locate them a few inches apart near the peak of the roof and mold and algae will disappear.

Scrap yard here buys spent primers, no problem. Just have to make very sure there are no live ones in there.

Save them for reloading them. It's doable.

If you wish to pretend you will be reloading primers in some end of the world scenario, wouldn't you already get a fresh empty for every cartridge you shoot? Why in the world would you need thousands more?

Not all brass and and some will be coated with nickel etc. but they are whatever the scrap yard is paying you at the time.

I'm considering using them for swaging alternative designed projectiles to see if I can add value to them.

Load them in shot shells. Don't carry as far as lead but make interesting holes.
To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the trouble with many shooting experts is not that they're ignorant; its just that they know so much that isn't so.

I have been told they are hazardous, lead dust. Keeping them out of the waste stream would be better alternative and if they give you cash for that its a bonus. Just sayan

In the past I sold them to the local scrap yard but, several years ago they quit buying them and I had to dump two five gallon buckets of them. I haven't come up with anything better than just putting them in the garbage which I hate to do.

I read that someone uses them to tumble cases, don't know if they use them alone or with ss media. Only my $0.02 worth.

Find another scrap yard. They are at least #2 brass in value.
I get about $11. for a 2 liter bottle full.

Small rifle/pistol primers are 0.175" diameter.
Large rifle/pistol primers are 0.210" diameter.
.50 BMG primers are 0.312" diameter.

Just thought I'd throw that out there....
