ATF has dropped it plans to ban M855 ammunition. We won the battle, thanks to thousand of us who entered comments, and hundreds of lawmakers who voiced opposition to the ban.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on Thursday raised new concerns about surplus military ammo used in popular AR-15 rifles and pistols just days after pulling back on a proposal to ban the ammo because it could threaten police safety.
In a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing, ATF Director B. Todd Jones said all types of the 5.56 military-style ammo used by shooters pose a threat to police as more people buy the AR-15-style pistols.
“Any 5.56 round” is “a challenge for officer safety,” he said. Jones asked lawmakers to help in a review of a 1986 bill written to protect police from so-called “cop killer” rounds that largely exempted rifle ammo like the 5.56 because it has been used by target shooters, not criminals.

You can follow the links and watch the testimony at about 1:21.

Notice he says "ANY 5.56 round is a challenge to officer safety". Sounds like they want to start with the green tip ammo but eventually ban it all. These guys just never get it, you can't legislate safety nor eliminate criminal activity.

    xxxxxxxx

They ALL are now political hacks. There isn't a lick of technical knowledge amongst the management chain in ANY federal agency. The liberals have been appointing those folks for years now and they are now deeply imbedded top to bottom in the management chains.

They are all political, many are EEO hires. I'm NOT commenting on their smarts. But many/most have no qualifications for their job, probably right out of school with zero technical experience to boot. How would you like a politically bent, politically correct, no technical smarts english major right out of school, 22 yrs old, managing a BILLION dollar budget on a technical project? Thats why I quit work at age 57. I couldn't take it any more. My 2 boys both work in the same field and both say it is worse now than when I quit. Has to be true as these folk get positive appraisals (PC you know), and promotions and move up in management. They don't know what they don't know. It's sad. God help our nation. BTW - This started with Pres. Carter when he created the Dept. of Energy to replace the AEC, and appointed a Dentist to manage the nuclear technology field. Most of the technical types were pushed out of the DOE to reduce personnel costs. You know...the guys that design, make and maintain our nuclear weapons. Feel better now??
