been hearing mixed reports about the claybuster CB0178-12 wad being used for the lee 1oz slug.
anyone load the lee 1oz slug with this wad, if yes, what are your opinions?

I don't have an opinion about that combination of components, but I will not buy Claybuster wads. Mostly use Down Range
Little too tall, esp. in tapered hulls.
Exactly---Win and Rem target hulls are tapered on the inside; this makes them a little more efficient for trap loads (kind of a hollow-charge effect) but less roomy for everything else.
CB wads also have an annoying rib on the inside of their petals which ruins the fit of Lee slugs; genuine Win wads don't have this, and they fit great.
Thankfully there are no ribs on the petals on these wads...

The problem is the wad material does not hold up under the forces of firing using this wad.
Lost petals and mangled crush sections are much more common than with Winchester wads, discovered through personal experience. Slugs are much harder on wads than shot, and cost savings in wad materials show up here in poorer results.
i have a plan, if these wads do not work out, i will use them for the .600 round ball.

They can work but are not ideal. I actually came up with a decent slug load using CB wads by cutting the top half of the petals off (this gets things below the wide point of the Lee slug and helps the bore fit but they are still "tight" due to the internal ribs.)
Cast is an adjective, a noun and a verb. Cast works as both imperative and past tense without any additional letters or helping verbs.
no ribs on these wads.

Try the Trap Commander or Helix Cushion Driver wads. If you can find the "15mm" height of those wads, there is enough space under the slug for putting hard cards.
