Look close and tell me what this is ...

Was checking on one of my crews here in Lake Tahoe and came across this.
It is laying next to a driveway, just off the street .
At first glance , thought is was just a rusted section of pipe .. but look closer !
    click on the pic ..

Definitely a cannon. You can see the field around the touche hole. Yeah inspite of it's condition I would definitely ask the owner what they wanted for it. Didn't see any trunions but maybe has an under the barrel mount. Shame to see it in it's present condition though. Frank

If those are cut off pieces of 4x4 in the background, scale and barrel shape indicates a possible mountain howitzer.

If you look close , it has a broken ring at the cascable for lashing with rope ...
been trying to find something similar online but no luck so far .
the muzzle is very narrow as in a carronade type ..
notice the ring in front of the trunioions
the ignition port on the flare/rib and ring on the breech ...

That's awesome luckily the woman I married would be just as happy to have that in our yard as I would be.

Never know what you'll turn up. Went to a country store in NC and got a pop in the 60s and was walking around outside and here's a machine gun set in concrete with flowers growing over it. I asked and the lady said her son brought it back from WWII and she got tired of it being in the garage so she set it in concrete and painted it white. Stayed there for years and I missed it and was hunting behind her house and she'd gotten tired of it and drug it back in the woods. It was pained with enamel. Wonder if it's still there./beagle
