Lee TL 240 gr 44 Boolits

Anyone have any experience using this Boolit for hunting? Just curious, nice big Boolit an easy to cast and lube with Ben's LL. Thanks Tim

Never used them, but a .44 swc should get most jobs done with proper shot placement.

One of my favorite molds! Use it in both 44 Special and 44 Mag. Using straight WW mine throw just a little light, around 237gr. have not killed anything but paper with them but would find it hard to believe that any small to medium sized critter would stand much of a chance getting walloped with 240gr of lead traveling around 1250 fps.

I loaded a bunch for a friend and his first shot nailed a nice buck that didn't go more than 20 feet. No bullet recovered but did a great job.

Used them for some time in my 3 .44 Magnum revolvers. In .44 SPL cases I use the classic "Skeeter" load of 7.5 gr of Unique. In the .44 Magnum I use 8.5 gr Unique. They kill jack rabbits, squirrels, rattlesnakes cow pies, sticks, pine cones and rocks just fine. I use the Lyman Devastator for big game over true magnum loads.

I cast some of the Lee 240 SWC GC…similar design….and a friend shot a small hog with one over a healthy charge of 2400…no bullet to recover……the hog was easy to recover it dropped in it's tracks….bullet went in the head, severed the spine and exited the right flank. No super devastating exit it wound….but the hog was dead before the bullet got that far.

My first mold was a Lee 240 gr. T/L SWC. Although I've not hunted with it, the bullets I cast with it in wheel weight alloy are pretty accurate in all of my 5, .44 Magnums. Nope, there ain't a soda can or piece of paper that's safe out to about 60 yards. The only problem I've had with them is feeding in my Puma, but I have been successful with feeding Special brass and the SWC. I have about 400 cast and waiting for lube and loading.

Nothing at all wrong with the boolit. Only thing I do is go to Felix lube for the upper loads. TL boolits do very well with a good lube.

I shot a coyote in the head with it at about 40y and it resulted in DRT. Also shot a ~80# hog with it for the same result. Both were soft pointed over a (slightly over) "max" load of H110 out of a Redhawk Hunter.

I shot Revolver class silhouette with that bullet out of a Super Blackhawk for a few years. 12.0 Gr of Unique toppeled rams quite nicely. The only "game" I ever shot with it was a doe Mule Deer hit by a car that needed finishing, one behind her ear ended it.

I killed a small doe with one cast from pure lead and fired from a 50 caliber ML with a sabot. It was a broadside double lung shot and she ran flat out for 100 yards, crossed the creek and ran onto a restricted farm. I snuck across the creek the next morning and found her barely 10 feet on the other side of the creekbed. Fortunately it was a cold night and the meat didn't spoil.

The wound was huge. I don't see how that little deer possibly could have gone that far.
